Three Tottenham Fan Groups Oppose Potential Roberto De Zerbi Appointment
Three Spurs fan groups are urging the club to reconsider a potential move for De Zerbi, citing his past public support for Mason Greenwood as a serious concern over the values the club would be representing.
Three Tottenham supporter groups have called on the club's board to reconsider a potential appointment of Roberto De Zerbi, due to his past public support for Marseille forward Mason Greenwood. Five defeats in seven matches for the relegation-threatened London club have increased pressure on interim manager Igor Tudor, who is also dealing with the recent death of his father Mario.
No final decision has been made regarding Tudor's future at the club, but De Zerbi has been linked with Tottenham since leaving his role at Olympique de Marseille in February. He is unlikely to take on a mid-season role, preferring instead to wait until the summer to assess his options. Fan groups Proud Lilywhites, Women of the Lane, and Spurs Reach have voiced serious concerns over a potential appointment of the Italian, given his association with Greenwood at Marseille.
Former Manchester United forward Greenwood was charged in October 2022 with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, following allegations made by his girlfriend. The charges were subsequently dropped, and Greenwood resumed his career, joining Olympique de Marseille in 2024.
"We are deeply concerned about this club — not only about what is happening on the pitch, but about what Tottenham stands for off it. This is not just about results or style. It is about values, identity, and the type of people we choose to represent us. We all want Tottenham to move forward, but how we do that matters. When someone in that position publicly defends a player like Mason Greenwood and presents it in a way that downplays the seriousness of what occurred, that matters — not only in isolation, but in terms of what it signals," said Proud Lilywhites in their statement.
