Panama's coach lamented the "cruel" defeat against Ghana
Panama coach Thomas Christiansen said his side deserved more than a cruel stoppage-time 0-1 defeat to Ghana, after dominating the first half but failing to convert their chances.
Panama coach Thomas Christiansen said his side deserved better than the "cruel" 0-1 defeat to Ghana, decided by Caleb Ekuban's goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Panama looked the better side in the first half, missing several clear chances before being punished late on.
"The result is painful, and that's because we deserved something better. We were excellent in the first half, we controlled Ghana. This is a cruel way to lose, but we can't dwell on that mistake forever. We have two more matches against very strong opponents. We know the quality they have, but we'll give our best. We showed that Panama is a very difficult team to beat and we'll fight until the end," said Christiansen.
Panama are still searching for their first ever World Cup victory. They face Croatia next, who also need to bounce back after their 2-4 loss to England.
