England's attacking firepower sweeps aside Croatia, Kane and Bellingham inspire the Three Lions

England beat Croatia 4-2 in the first major European derby of the 2026 World Cup, living up to the billing as one of the most anticipated group stage clashes. The Three Lions were the better side, particularly in the second half, and deserved their three points at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Harry Kane put England ahead in the 12th minute from the penalty spot — his first attempt was saved by Livaković, but VAR ordered a retake. Martin Baturina levelled in the 36th, only for Kane to restore the lead immediately with a header in the 42nd. Petar Musa equalised again in first-half stoppage time. England took the lead for a third time just two minutes into the second half when Jude Bellingham finished a superb solo run to make it 3-2. Tuchel's side created a series of further chances but were denied by outstanding Livaković saves, before Marcus Rashford sealed it in the 85th minute.
It was only the second World Cup meeting between the two sides — the first being Croatia's famous 2-1 extra-time semi-final win in Moscow in 2018. England gained partial revenge at Euro 2020, and have now done so again on the biggest stage.
England were the first European side to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but are still waiting for their first major trophy in 60 years. Croatia, meanwhile, arrive with formidable pedigree — World Cup medals in 1998, 2018 and 2022, and a Nations League title in 2022/23 — having gone unbeaten in the group stage of the last two World Cups. That record is now gone.
