Czech Republic midfielder Michal Sadílek scored the fastest goal of the 2026 World Cup so far — in the 6th minute of the 1-1 draw with South Africa — but was in no mood to celebrate the achievement.

"Scoring the fastest goal at the World Cup is something I'll remember for the rest of my life, but right now it means very little to me. The bitterness is enormous. We should have put the game to bed in the first half when we were fully dominant. We were obliged to score a second goal and make life easier for ourselves. Instead we let them believe they could break us. The situation is complicated now, but against Mexico we'll play for our lives," said Sadílek.
