Lukaku's super cameo helped Belgium claim a point against Egypt
Belgium and Egypt drew 1-1 in Group G, with Lukaku playing a key role in the equalising own goal just seconds after coming on as a substitute.
Belgium and Egypt shared the spoils in a competitive 1-1 draw in Seattle in their Group G opener. Emam Ashour gave Egypt the lead in the 19th minute, finishing powerfully into the near corner after a sublime Mohamed Salah assist — fitting, as it was the Egyptian star's birthday. Belgium levelled in the 66th minute through a Mohamed Hany own goal, with Romelu Lukaku — on the pitch for mere seconds — forcing the error by threading between two defenders to make himself a nuisance in the box.
Belgium had the better of the second half, with De Bruyne hitting the post from a free-kick (53') and Tielemans volleying inches wide (62'), while Shobeir produced a stunning save to deny Mehelе in the 83rd minute. Egypt were dangerous on the counter throughout, with Salah heading just wide and Marmush forcing Courtois into action on multiple occasions.
Goals: Ashour 19', Hany OG 66'
