For the second time in two years, Valentín Carboni's knee has betrayed him at the worst possible moment.
The 21-year-old Argentine forward will miss the 2026 World Cup after suffering a complete ACL tear and partial LCL tear in his right knee during training with the national team. Surgery is scheduled for the coming days.
The cruelest part? In 2024, Carboni suffered an ACL injury in the other knee while at Olympique Marseille — just weeks after lifting the Copa América with Argentina at the age of 18. Now history has repeated itself on the opposite leg.
Inter Milan, who hold his contract, are already organizing his rehabilitation — either in Argentina or in Italy. Racing Club, where he is currently on loan, are also exploring options for a replacement given the expected length of his recovery.
