Martínez: 'Why Shouldn't Portugal Win the World Cup?'

Roberto Martínez makes no secret of his ambitions — Portugal's manager once again speaks with full confidence about the chances of the Seleção at the upcoming World Cup. The coach is expected to announce his squad for the friendlies against Mexico and the USA, scheduled for March 28 and 31.
"They say Portugal will win… Why not? Let's dream," the Spaniard declared, without a trace of hesitation.
Martínez also emphasized the specifics of the upcoming tournament. "Player selection is of key importance. This will be a different World Cup — we'll need tactical and technical quality, but also energy. That's exactly what we'll test in the two upcoming friendlies," he explained.
At a special event at Cidade do Futebol on Thursday, the federation's strategic plan for 2024–2036 was presented. Martínez spoke at length about it, underlining that the Portuguese Football Federation is a "high-performance institution" whose success rests on three pillars: clarity, execution, and development.
The coach also devoted special attention to the future — highlighting the importance of gradually integrating the U-17 world champions into the senior team, with a clear eye toward the 2030 World Cup.
